The Seed Sector Coordination Meeting was held at Lotus Hotel in Jigjiga, bringing together humanitarian actors (NGOs), regional bureaus, and ministerial advisors, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Somali Seed Enterprise, SoRPARI, and other bureaus under the leadership of the SRS Bureau of Agriculture.
The objective was to strengthen the existing platform for inclusive collaboration among seed sector stakeholders and to harmonize their plans with the regional regulatory team in order to advance inspection and certification efforts.
Discussions focused on seed system governance, legal frameworks, and regulatory activities. The Regional Regulatory Unit emphasized the importance of inspection and certification for both public and private seed producers.
Key action points were agreed, and the seed regulatory team is now set to commence duties by inspecting small, medium and large-scale farms to ensure quality standards and strengthen seed sector governance.
We extend our sincere appreciation to SWR and the Ethiopian Seed Partnership for their unwavering support throughout the journey of this initiative.
