Agricultural and natural resources development bureau is among the major regional sector entrusted with the hugest responsibility with regards to development. the bureau was established on May 15, 1993. In order to discharge powers and duties given by the regional government with regards to crop and natural resources development of the Ethiopian Somali Regional State.

Even though agriculture is the base of the region’s economy, it fails to meet food and non-food needs of the population. Therefore, the growing recurrence of sudden onset emergencies frequently lead to food, feed, health and water related crises. Crop moisture deficit and feed and water driven stress affecting livestock, high prevalence of plant and animal diseases and awkward
husbandry practices are the primary factors for the low productivity in the sector. Poor genetic make-up and environmental factors are also other contributing factors.
